, September 11, 2009 – In observance of 9-11 the American Red Cross, East Texas Chapters, are marking the date with a regional meeting on preparedness. The
Lamar
County
, East Texas Piney Woods,
Smith
County
and
Texarkana
chapters will gather today, along with state and national personnel, to access regional preparedness and plan for greater capacities and volunteer opportunities throughout the region.
Emphasis on today’s meeting will be on planning and how to build the regional volunteer base to be better able to respond, as a region, to local and statewide disaster. “On this day of remembrance it is more important than ever that we remember, as loyal Americans, we are all called to service,” stated Tammy Prater, executive director of the Smith County Chapter of the American Red Cross. “It is every patriotic Americans duty to help their community to become better prepared,” continued Mrs. Prater.
The meeting is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. today at the Smith County Chapter located at
