Course Descriptions and Prerequisites:
Community Services Training -
Course Purpose - The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to provide an overview of the activities performed by the Community Services group in support of a disaster relief operation. This course will cover the essentials involved in feeding and sheltering.
Participants - Participants will be volunteers and employees of the Red Cross and other agencies and community leaders who wish to serve in or work with Community Services group activities on a disaster relief operation.

Shelter Operations Training -
Course Purpose - The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to prepare volunteers and employees of the Red Cross and other agencies to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.
Participants - Participants will be volunteers and employees of the Red Cross and other agencies and community leaders who will be working on shelter operations teams.

Community Services Training
Family Services Training -
Course Purpose - The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the Family Services function. You will learn the skills and tools needed to conduct an effective client interview. Client interviews are conducted to determine the type of services that should be provided to meet the clients' needs.
Participants - Participants will be Red Cross paid and volunteer staff and representatives of other community agencies who will be interviewers on local and national assignments.

Foundations of Disaster Mental Health -
Course Purpose - The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to prepare licensed mental health professionals to provide for and respond to the psychological needs of people across the continuum of disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
Participants - Participants will be licensed mental health professionals who are considering becoming involved in Red Cross disaster mental health (DMH) preparedness, response and recovery activities at their local chapter and on national relief operations.
Required - Mental health professional with a current state license, to include: counselor, marriage and family therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, RN with psychiatric nursing experience and training beyond the normal rotation required for a RN, social worker.
